Hair Report

Have you ever tried to grow your hair to a particular length?
It can be like watching grass grow!

As a person of African descent, I face particular challenges in this regard because our hair is very porous and often dry. I've been able to grow my hair to just past my shoulders in the past. I decided not to give up during the UGLY in between stage and commit to babying my hair to see just how long it can grow with the proper care and attention it deserves. After all, a woman's hair is her crown and glory.

I decided to share my hair journey.
I am relaxed. My last relaxer was in September 2009. I broke down & succumbed to the creamy crack after having been frustrated with not being able to manage my dry rebellious natural hair. Too bad! I was 18 months in since my Big Chop!

Whatever! I have to deal with my choice now.
I decided to continue to relax, but less often.

I am committed to relaxing only two times a year.
I started journaling today to keep track of what works & what does not.
Officially I am considered NL (neck length). My goal over the course of 2010 is APL (arm pit length). There HAS GOT to be a better name for that. It sounds weird. Anyway, I've been maintaining my length since September by conditioning once a week. I always use a moisturizing shampoo first. I am planning to use a clarifying shampoo every two weeks. I will also use Aphogee Protein Treatment every other month. I will deep condition with hair masks as needed. There, I typed it! Now I have to stick to it.

I am doing protective styling right now until I achieve a length at which I feel comfortable sporting my own tresses. After washing & conditioning my hair, I seal my ends with Organic Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil. I separate my hair into small sections & corn row it straight back. So it looks like I will be looking like Cleo from Set It Off for a while. (Only fabulous with accessories) *smiles*

I am excited by my progress so far.

I will update in June, barring any MAJOR changes to my routine or progress.
